Five Reasons to Practice Counting

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

I want to remind you of a wonderful practice by reciting to you Johnson Oatman, Jr.'s words.

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done.

The practice of counting our blessings and speaking our thankfulness to God releases many benefits.

Here are five. You can probably think of more.

1. It insures that we keep a tender and soft heart.
2. It keeps us humble.
3. It helps us to see the good in our circumstances.
4. It allows us to keep our focus on Jesus.
5. It keeps depression and fear at bay.

Just as counting our blessings brings a benefit, rehearsing our problems brings fear and anxiety.
I urge you to spend this week practicing counting your blessings.

If your not sure where to start, I'd like to suggest Ann Voskamp's book One Thousand Gifts Devotional. She looked for the blessings and found more than she could've imagined. You will too.
